Artificial intelligence, or AI, is the ability of a computer to make decisions by learning from data—like a human being, only much, much faster. Today, AI systems are unlocking the value of data to ignite new opportunities across industries, from healthcare and financial services to security, communications, energy, and more.
The federal government is already putting artificial intelligence to work across a broad spectrum of activities, such as improving public safety and streamlining social services. AI helps the government make more informed decisions about where they can invest their IT dollars while staying within budget and managing resourcing constraints.
With these changes, a whole suite of jobs is being reimagined as automation augments, displaces and disrupts human labor, the benefits of which have been well chronicled. In fact, 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t been invented yet, according to a report from the Institute for the Future.
Today, AI systems make decisions that normally would require human intelligence, and can do it faster and with greater accuracy. This means that AI is unlocking the value of data across agencies and all of government, enabling them to better serve their communities.
